While many in the region have been getting acclimated to these ‘warmer-than-normal’ temperatures over the last 24 to 48 hours — change is coming again. That change is evening brining the threat of snow. That threat, though, should stay mainly to the south.
Here are the highlights from FLX Weather Meteorologist Drew Montreuil:
– Record-breaking warmth continues in the Finger Lakes Wednesday morning but will come to an abrupt and sudden end during the middle of the day.
– This front will make its way east, entering the Finger Lakes region around 10 or 11 am and clearing the area by 1 or 2 pm.
– A band of showers will accompany the front, along with a sudden shift and increase in the wind to the northwest.
– Temperatures will rapidly drop from the 60s into the 40s in the span of a half-hour or less. After the initial drop, temperatures will fall more slowly back through the 40s and into the 30s by the late afternoon.
– Thursday could feature some accumulating snow, as a storm system moves along the cold front, which will stall out south of us. Locations in the southern tier, and southern Finger Lakes will see a few inches of accumulation — but the remainder of the region — especially those north of the State Route 5&20 line will see little, or no accumulation.
– Active weather will continue into the weekend with temperatures rising again into the ‘above normal’ territory.
