The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office reports that they responded to the report of horses in the road near the intersection of County Road 35 and County Road 14 last night around 2:33 a.m.
While the owner of the horses, identified as James F. Miller, of Ionia was herding the animals back to his property at 8886 County Road 14 — a westbound pickup truck crested a nearby hill — causing one of the animals to run back out into the road.

The truck and horse collided, but neither the driver, nor passenger — were injured as result of the collision.
The horse was killed on impact, according to deputies at the scene. Members of the Ionia Fire Department assisted at the scene and the West Bloomfield Highway Department responded with a loader to remove the horse from the highway.
An investigation into ‘livestock in roadway’ complaints has been launched.
