Cornell University students will soon vote on whether they want to ban tobacco products from their campus in Ithaca.
A resolution calling for a tobacco-free campus referendum was introduced in March 2017 by its sponsor, Ulysses Smith, the former chair of the Employee Assembly at the university. The University Assembly adopted the referendum in May through U.A. Resolution 9, allowing Cornell community members to vote on whether the university should start a two-year initiative to become tobacco-free.
The resolution will be voted on in the spring, said Joe Anderson, chair of the Campus Welfare Committee.
Cornell community members may submit comments during a period before the referendum would go into affect.
