Man arrested for robberies at two banks in Ithaca

A 32-year-old man has been arrested in connection to robberies at two banks in Ithaca in recent weeks.

According to Ithaca Police, Chaio Slater, 32, of Ithaca, is facing charges for robberies at the Cornell Federal Credit Union and Tompkins County Trust Company.

Slater was charged with robbery in the second degree, a class B felony, for both incidents. He was remanded at the Tompkins County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash bail or $300,000 bond for both incidents.

According to police, officers responded to the Tompkins County Trust Company at 775 S. Meadow St. in Ithaca on Dec. 5. Police said he entered the bank with a handgun held down to his side and approached a bank teller to demand that money be put into a white plastic bag that he was holding. The bank teller did as asked and the man fled the bank on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.
