Man representing fake haircut charity event arrested in Auburn

A Syracuse man who went around Auburn soliciting donations for a fake charity in November and December of last year was arrested Friday, the Auburn Police Department said.

Deputy Chief Roger Anthony said 15 people gave statements to the department confirming they had been approached by Knowledge M. Ali-El to donate to the charity, which Ali-El called the Christmas Hair Kut A Thon. Fliers circulated around the city advertising the free haircut event, which was to be held on Dec. 16 at the Booker T. Washington Community Center. Anthony said police began to investigate Ali-El after a board member from the community center contacted the department stating the center had no affiliation with the promotion.
