Community stunned after Clyde doctor’s arrest in federal child porn investigation

We’re learning more about community reaction to the doctor in Clyde, who’s been charged in a child pornography investigation.

That doctor, identified by federal authorities as Dr. David Blasczak, was arraigned in Thursday in Federal Court. He denied abusing patients, but admitted to taking nude photos of them for medical research and his own personal gratification.

Clyde Family Health Center, located in the heart of Clyde, where Dr. Blasczak practiced for years was a place where many sent their children.

Tammy Garrow lives across the street and took her children to his practice. Her son, Marcus, expressed long-term concerns with the doctor. While he didn’t have any photos taken of him, Marcus did note that the way the doctor interacted with him made him feel ‘uncomfortable’.

Tammy, like many in the community, are stunned that this doctor was capable of the acts outlined in the federal charges.

Finger Lakes Health released a statement reading, “Effective immediately, Dr. David Blasczak’s medical staff privileges have been suspended. We are cooperating fully with the Department of Homeland Security on their investigation.”

Community Reacts to Federal Charges

Original Report

A Wayne County physician who worked at the Clyde Family Health Center has been arrested on child pornography charges following the execution of a search warrant.

Dr. David Blasczak was arraigned Thursday in Federal Court. He denies abusing patients, but admitted to taking photos of his patients’ genitals, according to federal agents. He told those federal investigators that he took them for medical research and his own gratification.

In addition, he admitted to paying parents of patients on eight different occasions.

The crime even spread to his own home. According to those investigators, Blasczak admitted to engaging in sexually abusive behaviors with minors who stayed at his home during sleepovers with his own children.

James Kennedy, The US Attorney for the Western District of New York said, “A physician’s Hippocratic Oath is to do no harm and obviously allegations like this, people with access because of their position to child are especially disturbing. We implore the public and ask them that they come forward with any information by contacting HSI Buffalo.”

Homeland Security discovered Dr. Blasczak in September 2017, according to WHEC.

Finger Lakes Health operates Clyde Family Health Center, and on Thursday issued a statement. “Effective immediately, Dr. David Blasczak’s medical staff privileges have been suspended. We are cooperating fully with the Department of Homeland Security on their investigation.”
