Junior Frank Howard posted 18 points, seven rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals to lead Syracuse (13-6, 2-4 ACC) to a 59-45 victory over Pittsburgh (8-11, 0-6 ACC) Tuesday night in the Carrier Dome. The win snaps the Orange’s four-game losing streak.
Sophomore Tyus Battle added 15 points, freshman Oshae Brissett finished with 10 points and five boards and junior Paschal Chukwu recorded eight points and eight rebounds.
With Syracuse clinging to a two-point lead with 9:46 remaining, a 12-2 run over a time span of 7:09 helped the Orange pull away. Howard made a layup, followed by a 3-pointer from Battle and a Howard 3-point play. Pitt added two free throws, but a Chukwu dunk, two foul shots by Howard and a Battle layup gave Syracuse a 51-37 lead with 2:37 to play.
