Cayuga County could soon collect occupancy tax on Airbnb rentals.
A resolution and agreement with Airbnb, an online marketplace for booking accommodations worldwide, is making its way through the county Legislature. The agreement would allow the company to collect occupancy taxes for online bookings in Cayuga County and transfer those funds to the treasurer’s office on a quarterly basis.
According to the draft voluntary collection agreement, Airbnb will notify hosts if and when the contract goes into effect and that transient occupancy tax will be collected on each booking transaction.
