Deputies say a 58-year-old Penn Yan man was charged with driving while intoxicated after nearly striking oncoming traffic.

The incident took place on State Route 14 in the Town of Geneva, when James L. Reed, 58, of Penn Yan was stopped for speeding and swerving over the center line, nearly striking a vehicle.

He was found to be operating the vehicle in an intoxicated condition and was placed under arrest, according to deputies.
