In a match-up of the top two teams in the Finger Lakes East varsity girls basketball standings on Tuesday night, it was Midlakes with a huge 31 point win on the road at Penn Yan. The convincing 73-42 win sends a message to the rest of the East that the Screaming Eagles are clearly the team to beat as they stay undefeated and improve to 11-0 on the season.
Midlakes led by five points after the opening quarter of play, then jumped out to an insurmountable lead with a 24-10 second quarter outburst.
Midlakes standout junior guard Alaina Forbes led the way with 29 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Senior Clair DeBoover scored 16 points and freshman Cara Walker added 10. Macy Kisner dished out 6 assists and pulled down 9 rebounds. Midlakes will try to improve to 12-0 when they travel to face Wayne on Wednesday evening.
For Penn Yan, Sydney Bloom scored 14 points to go with 7 rebounds. Joddie Decker led all Mustang scorers with 16 points and Jenna Curbeau grabbed 10 rebounds. Penn Yan was coming off a big win at home against Mynderse last week and will try to regain momentum when they host Newark on Wednesday night.
