Dr. Paul Connett, professor emeritus in environmental chemistry at St. Lawrence University in Canton will be the guest speaker at a public program on the proposed waste-to-energy project at the former Seneca Army Depot.
The program will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 7, in the auditorium at Romulus High School on Route 96.
For the past 30 years, Connett has put his scientific knowledge to work by donating his time to communities around the country and world, helping them understand the science behind controversial issues such as waste incineration. In addition to educating communities on the dangers associated with these projects, he offers alternative solutions.
Connett will be introduced by Judith Enck, former head of the Region 2 office of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and former New York State Deputy Secretary for the Environment. Enck is now a member of the New York Public Interest Research Group, where she researches incinerators and promotes zero waste and composting.
The program is sponsored by Seneca Lake Guardian and Romulus Residents Opposed to the Trash Train.
