Bath man faces welfare fraud charges after submitting fake docs

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of a Bath man following an investigation into public assistance.

Deputies say Christopher Spengler, 29, of Bath was taken into custody due to allegedly reporting to Department of Social Services with false job search forms, which were required to receive public assistance.

As result, Spengler received public assistance that he was not eligible to receive. He was charged with one count of first-degree falsifying business records and one count of fifth-degree welfare fraud.

He will answer the charges at a later date.
