Thanksgiving dinner will be cheaper this year in New York

Thanksgiving dinner this week is going to cost New Yorkers slightly less to cook.

The New York Farm Bureau's annual survey found the average cost for a Thanksgiving meal for 10 this year in New York will cost about $44.74, which is down $1.89 from last year’s $46.63.

“The dinner price has dropped for a second consecutive year which means New Yorkers can continue to enjoy a reasonably priced Thanksgiving meal," Phyllis Couture, chairwoman of the group's promotion and education committee, said in a statement.

"While farmers continue to struggle with lower commodity prices across the board, American consumers benefit from lower prices at the cash register.”

Average prices were found by the Farm Bureau’s volunteer shoppers who went to stores across different areas of the state and looked for the best prices on 12 different Thanksgiving meal essentials without the help of coupons or special promotional offers.
