A high-speed chase Friday night, which started in Penn Yan has landed two men in county jail.
Penn Yan Police say speeds reached more than 100 mph, and began when a vehicle operated by Daniel Romer, 30, of Prattsburgh, was observed traveling almost three-times the legal speed limit.
Officers attempted to stop the car — but Romer fled — reaching speeds of more than 100 mph during the pursuit. Police say they followed Romer into Branchport, and in the village went through a red light.
While traveling through the intersection – his vehicle struck another. Police say his vehicle eventually got stuck on a private road in the Town of Jerusalem.
Police were able to take Romer, as well as his passenger, identified as 34-year-old Christopher Shay, of Branchport, into custody.
Romer was charged with two counts of reckless endangerment, unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, aggravated unlicensed operation, driving while intoxicated, unlawful possession of marijuana, and several other traffic violations.
Shay was charged with obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest.
Both men are being held at the Yates County Jail.
