Porsch earns third term as Seneca County DA

Incumbent Seneca County District Attorney Barry Porsch, who was facing his toughest challenge yet, was re-elected to another four-year term Tuesday.

Porsch, the county’s two-term DA, defeated challenger Joe Sapio by an unofficial vote of 5,113 to 2,883.

Porsch ran on the Republican, Democratic and Working Families lines. Sapio appeared on the Conservative and Independence lines, and was trying to become the first to win the DA position without being on one of the two major party lines.

“I am very grateful to the voters of Seneca County for re-electing me their district attorney,” Porsch said after the votes were counted. “Together we have won an historic victory that has brought together multiple party lines in a truly bipartisan and unifying declaration of the voters strong commitment to the safety and well-being of our county.

“I have lived in Seneca County most of my life, and, on behalf of our communities, businesses and families, I will continue to work tirelessly for the good of the county.”

Sapio said he was proud of his the campaign he ran.
