An Amsterdam man was arraigned for attempted rape and luring a child Thursday and remanded to Cayuga County Jail Thursday in lieu of $100,000 cash, $300,000 bond.
Victoriano Vergel-Marquez, of 24 Carmichael Ave., was arrested in April for attempting to engage a 12-year-old girl in sexual contact in Aurelius, New York State Police said. The 27-year-old was allegedly taken into custody before he had any contact with the victim.
Vergel-Marquez was indicted and charged with a dozen felonies Thursday in Cayuga County Court: one count of first-degree attempted rape and 11 counts of first-degree disseminating indecent material to minors. He was also charged with attempting to lure a child to commit a felony, a misdemeanor.
