New solar project in Ontario generate power – and buzz

The sun will be helping to save money in Wayne County.

Officials in the town of Ontario cut the ribbon Wednesday morning on a new solar panel project.

GroSolar installed 8,600 panels along Lake Road near Bear Creek Harbor.

The solar panel farm is expected to generate 3.5 million kilowatt hours of renewable energy in one year. That is the equivalent of powering 250 homes – even on cloudy days.

“It’s a sunny day today, but even on a cloudy day, we are producing here,” said Timothy Heinle, vice president of GroSolar. “The town’s making money and so a day like today is fantastic. But even in the tough winters here in Wayne County, we’re going to be producing like crazy.”
