Marginal risk for storms on Friday; weekend will remain mostly-dry

Don’t expect Friday to be a washout.

In fact, don’t expect any day this weekend to be a washout in the Finger Lakes.

The National Weather Service says that showers and thunderstorms will develop on Friday. Especially during the afternoon hours. Those showers and thunderstorms, though, as has been common all summer — will have the slight risk for strong winds, heavy rain, and hail.

High temperatures will reach the upper-70s, with cloudy conditions persisting across most of the region. That said, anyone caught in one of these localized downpours could see a quick quarter-inch, or half-inch of rainfall in a short amount of time.

The National Weather Service had the following to say about Friday’s forecast in a special weather statement:

“Showers and thunderstorms will form through the day today, with chances for storms to remain across the region into the evening. While the bulk of this activity will be garden variety, there will be marginal conditions for a few strong to severe storms with gusty winds, heavy rain and hail the threats.”
