Owasco Lake Day is a day dedicated to celebrating Owasco Lake and educating people on the lake's importance, Owasco Watershed Lake Association President Bob Brower said.
What better way to celebrate the lake than taking people out on a boat tour so they can experience it themselves?
Those who attended Sunday's festival at Emerson Park had the opportunity to take a free, 30-minute pontoon boat ride around the lake, while a guide educated the riders on all aspects of the lake.
With the sun shinning brightly and the breeze blowing off the lake, riders learned about the lake's history dating back to the 1800s, statistics about the lake — Owasco Lake holds 212 billion gallons of water, is 177 feet at its deepest point and is the sixth largest of the Finger Lakes — and what can be done to prevent blue-green algae.
