DEC: Untreated sewage leaking into Marsh Creek after Geneva pipe failure

A pump station discharge pipe failure is being blamed for untreated sewage getting released into Marsh Creek in Ontario County.

According to an alert from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation overflow of untreated sewage from a manhole to Marsh Creek began happening around 6 am due to an equipment failure at the Marsh Creek lift station.

The same alert notes that it’s unknown at this time if public areas were impacted by the failure.

An estimated 5,000 gallons of untreated sewage had been released from 45 Doran Ave. in Geneva for a period of several hours.

Emergency crews were on-scene to deal with the failure.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
