Ordinary cats need loving homes too. At the Beverly Animal Shelter, some felines are striking beauties. One picture is all it takes and someone comes to adopt them. On the other hand, there are many wonderfully sweet and affectionate cats that are a bit, if you’ll excuse the expression, “mousey”. Ordinary, reserved, dark Tigers they are. Also, this week is a very dear young man who is looking for a foster home. This week’s pets surely need loving homes.
LUCY
Dark brown with almost black tiger stripes, Lucy arrived last September, an unclaimed stray. Now thought to be 2 years old, she is affectionate, playful and likes to snuggle. Just look into those golden eyes. She is very deserving. Lucy is spayed, up to date on her vaccinations, micro-chipped and tested negative for both FIV and Fe-Leuk.
TEFFER
A dark Torbie with the softest fur, Teffer arrived on July 1, 2016. She was found abandoned in a parking lot in Waterloo after a tenant moved. Teffer may have the face of a cat with “tude”. However, she is a sweet girl who loves to be petted. Teffer is looking for a peaceful, gentle home. She is now around 5 years old, spayed, up to date on her vaccinations, micro-chipped and tested negative for both FIV and FeLeuk.
GARFIELD II
Garfield II was recently transferred to BAS from another Shelter to be saved from an immediate death sentence. While some shelters do, BAS does not euthanize cats simply because they have tested positive for Fe-Leuk. The Fe-Leuk positive cats at BAS have their own private isolation room, which includes an isolated outdoor area as well. Thought to be around 2 years old, cute and cuddly, with red and white medium length fur, Garfield II has a double whammy. He tested positive for FIV as well. He needs to find an indoor foster home with another Fe-Leuk cat or no cats at all. Can you help? Garfield is up to date on his vaccinations and neutered. He will be micro-chipped if fostered.
LAST WEEK’S PETS – All of last week’s pets hoping for a real forever home, feline Bo and canines Tubbs and Lady, remain wishing and hoping.
SHELTER NEWS
As a service to the community, the Beverly Animal Shelter has added a crematory for animal cremation, both individual and group. Call the Shelter at (315)539-9357 for more information.
Once again, the Beverly Animal Shelter will have a subsidized Spay & Neuter program for low-income pet owners. This is made possible by a generous Grant from the ASPCA. The Beverly Animal Shelter extends an appreciative “Thank You” to the ASPCA for their consideration.
The new Integrated Veterinary Service has begun at the Beverly Animal Shelter. Although held only once or twice a month, the long wait for spay or neutering has been greatly reduced! Call the Shelter to make your appointment. They are now taking reservations.
DUE TO THE DECREASE IN GOVERNMENT INCENTIVES, THE LOCAL RECYCLERS OF ELECTRONICS HAVE CLOSED DOWN. THEREFORE, THE BEVERLY ANIMAL SHELTER IS NO LONGER ACCEPTING ELECTRONICS FOR RECYCLING.

Unfortunately, The Purina Pets for Seniors Fund has been DISCONTINUED. However, BAS is attempting to continue Senior adoptions on an individual basis through the generosity of others.
The Board of Directors of the Beverly Animal Shelter is working hard to give you all the information you need to properly take care of your pet. Please be advised that the Shelter website has changed to simply http://www.beverlyanimalshelter.com.
Why not take the opportunity to spend some playtime with your favorite canine. The Dave Pullen Memorial Dog Park at the Beverly Animal Shelter is open Monday-Saturday, 10am-4pm. It is located on the front center grounds at the Shelter and has a double-gated entrance. It is free to the public (though the Shelter always appreciates any donations!), but we do require you to stop by the shelter staff (at the store) to show proof of rabies and distemper vaccinations. We want everyone, including your dog safe! We also ask that you please clean up after your dog. Come on out and give your pup a chance to run off lead in a safe and enclosed environment!
THANK YOU FOR THE GENEROUS CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE PAST YEAR!!
The Shelter is no longer accepting scrap metal to recycle. However, they continue to accept returnable bottles and cans. For more information, call the Shelter at (315)539-9357. Be sure to wash out your returnables.
SHELTER NEEDS –
Seneca Falls has had a limit of only 3 dogs allowed for decades. The Town of Tyre has also joined Interlaken, Romulus, and the Town of Waterloo in setting limits on the number of dogs one individual can own. Now, for the rest of Seneca County…
Summer is here. Kitten Season (round two) is in full swing! BAS needs your help! To help the Shelter out, please go to www.FirstGiving.com/bas.
Please keep in mind when you enter the Shelter grounds, to adhere to the 5mph speed limit. A very sweet but deaf cat that had lived at the shelter for 17 years was killed because someone sped through the drive.
Dallyn, along with the ASPCA, would like to remind all cat owners of the importance (after spay and neutering) of cat collars (safety or breakaway) with proper identification for outdoor cats. The Shelter is overwhelmed by “found” but unclaimed cats. The hope of the Shelter is to be able to reunite the lost felines with their owners. Many types of collars are available for cats. Please see Dallyn for more information.
Please, if you have lost your dog or cat, DO CALL the shelter. Do not wait for an advertisement of “found dog/cat” to appear in the newspaper.
Please be a responsible pet owner. Spay and neuter your pets to prevent more unwanted animals. ONLY YOU can prevent the overflow of kittens that begins each Spring and carries on into the Fall.
We invite you to come and meet our wonderful creatures in person. The Shelter is open from 10:00AM to 4:00PM daily EXCEPT SUNDAY and Wednesday. The store is open from 9:00 to 6:00 Monday to Friday and 9:00 to 4:00 Saturday. Questions, call (315)539-9357 or email [email protected]
