The Second Annual Canal Jam has been announced by organizers for Waterloo this Labor Day Weekend.
Last year’s event was an overwhelming success as hundreds came out to support local musicians and much more.
Festival producer Lee Bieber reiterated his commitment to Waterloo by working to create a family-friendly, music-centered event over Labor Day Weekend that the entire community can enjoy.
“Our entire family continues to fall in love with Waterloo and the Finger Lakes. We look forward to the opportunity to bring about positive change in the community around events like these,” Bieber said after the announcement.
Organizers say the goal is to create a flagship concert event in Waterloo, which will draw spectators and visitors from around the region. “With a strong and diverse lineup, the hope is to attract people from all over the state,” added Bieber.
The entire event is orchestrated and led by Director Matthew Elkin, who ran last year’s successful venture and is part of the FLX Live venture in Geneva. “It’s a passion of mine, and the entire team is working together to make this year’s festival even bigger and better than last September’s Canal Jam.”
The event will last two days, running September 2nd and 3rd over the Labor Day Weekend. A pre-party will take place with Grass Is Daed at FLX Live in Geneva on Friday, September 1st.
In addition to the music, kids activities, workshops, boat slip parking, professional massage, craft vending and yoga will be taking place over the diverse weekend. The event will also feature a disc golf tournament, which is being organized and will take place on-site. More events will be announced for the weekend in the coming weeks on Canal Jam’s official Facebook Page.
Food and drink on-site will be sponsored by Stan’s – a farm-to-table restaurant slated for opening on August 10th. Post-show festivities will also be held at Stan’s.
Among the musical acts set to be featured at Canal Jam are:
- Grass Is Dead, a Florida-based bluegrass band performing music from the Grateful Dead catalog in fun and unique ways;
- The Medicinals, a 10 piece roots band from Rochester NY that features members from Giant Panda Guerrilla Dub Squad, Mosaic Foundation, The Honey Smugglers, Personal Blend, Lost Wax, and more;
- Maybird, a Rochester-based rock band;
- Rumourz, a premier Fleetwood Mac cover band based out of Buffalo;
- Dirty Blanket, a bluegrass band;
- Funknut, a Rochester-based funk band;
- Nate Michaels, a local musician playing country and rock classics;
- Darwin, a Geneva rock band playing original material;
- and others yet to be announced.
Tickets will be available ahead or at the gates.
