Public meetings will discuss Owasco Lake watershed rules and regulations

It’s been more than 30 years since the Owasco Lake watershed’s rules and regulations were updated, and that’s one reason why Cayuga County will hold multiple public meetings to review and potentially update the document.

Local officials hope to add and subtract from the current list, as some things may be outdated or irrelevant to today’s watershed, while other things may be missing completely. They also hope to create updates that will address water quality problems in the lake, including toxic blue-green algae blooms, erosion, sediment runoff, manure spills, failed septic systems and poor roadway practices.
