Sterling man sentenced for $12,000 welfare fraud

A Sterling man was sentenced Thursday for illegally receiving more than $12,000 in unemployment benefits.

Benjamin Batrack, 31, of 14230 Craine Road, pleaded guilty in August to four felonies: third-degree welfare fraud, third-degree grand larceny, first-degree filing a false instrument and misusing food stamps.

During his plea, Batrack admitted submitting forms with false information in October 2011. In addition, he said he did not report his benefits for a period of employment between June 2012 and August 2013.
