A trucker from Jefferson County who engaged in sexual activity with a 15-year-old Wayne County girl pleaded guilty to a felony charge Tuesday in federal court.
Carl Burdick, 58, of Henderson, pleaded guilty before Judge Charles Siragusa to transporting a minor across state lines for the purpose of engaging in sexual conduct.
The plea was announced by James Kennedy Jr., Acting U.S. Attorney for the Western District of New York. The charge carries a minimum penalty of 10 years in prison, a maximum of life and a $250,000 fine.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Kyle Rossi, who is handling the case, said Burdick — a long-haul truck driver — used texts and social medial to develop a sexual relationship with the girl. Rossi added that Burdick engaged in “grooming” activity with the girl over a period of several months in 2015, getting nude photos from her.
