Thompson gets early OK to buy Canandaigua Medical Group

A proposal by F.F. Thompson Hospital to buy the Canandaigua Medical Group would cement what for many years has been an informal relationship.

“Over the last 20 to 25 years, it really has been a partnership with Thompson to the extent that it can be,” said Jim Wright, interim chief executive officer of the multispecialty practice that is on the same street in Canandaigua as the hospital.

The practice’s obstetricians deliver babies at Thompson, and pediatricians make rounds in the nursery and general surgeons operate at the hospital.

The application for the $19.8 million project was approved Thursday by a committee of the state’s Public Health and Health Planning Council. The full council is expected to approve the application at a June meeting.
