Another year, another chance for Auburn to win a $10 million state grant to improve its downtown corridor.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo launched the second round of the Downtown Revitalization Initiative Tuesday. The program provides $100 million to 10 municipalities for downtown projects.
The state’s 10 regional economic development councils will each nominate a municipality to receive the grant. In last year’s competition, Auburn was one of four cities to apply for the Central New York Regional Economic Development Council’s endorsement. The award ultimately went to Oswego.
The regional councils will judge applications using several criteria, including whether the downtown area is compact and if the municipality is capable of supporting a vibrant, year-round downtown.
