Joe Morabito, chief of the Auburn Fire Department, said it won’t happen in his career or maybe even in his lifetime, but he wants the city and Cayuga County to consider a countywide fire department.
As part of his goals to tackle in his 2017-2018 budget presentation, Morabito told Auburn city councilors Thursday night that an inter-municipal agreement similar to those with water and sewer, would make the fire service better.
“It’s a big nut to crack, I guess is the best way to put it,” Morabito said. “It’s something that we really need to look to, and the biggest problem right now is getting the legislation passed through the state to at least talk about it.”
