Surveys from the Department of Environmental Conservation and Finger Lakes Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management reveal 27 acres of Cayuga Lake are infested with an aquatic weed.
The surveys, which were completed last fall, state there is a hydrilla infestation in 27 acres of the eastern portion of the lake by Aurora. Before last fall, hydrilla was found only in Cayuga Inlet, with the first discovery in the lake in 2011.
The recent infestation farther to the north could have a negative effect on the lake and industry, especially recreation.
The hydrilla in the inlet to Cayuga in the south has been eradicated fully (100 percent) but Fall Creek still has populations of hydrilla.
