A Canandaigua woman is facing a variety of charges related to a welfare fraud investigation, where Ontario County officials say more than $13,000 in benefits were illegally received.
Melissa K. Robinson, 26, of Canandaigua was arrested at the Hopewell Town Court and charged with one count of third-degree welfare fraud, six counts of first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, four counts of second-degree possession of a forged instrument after she allegedly received $13,699.18 in child care, SNAP and HEAP benefits that she was not entitled to receive because of unreported household income.
The unreported income totaled more than $37,000 according to investigators in Ontario County.
Robinson is accused of falsely reporting her income over a period of more than one year. The date range ran from October 21st, 2015 until January 19th, 2017, according to deputies.
Ontario County officials say Robinson provided six false documents to Social Services, and four forged document, which all contained false information.
She was arraigned in Hopewell Town Court and released on her own recognizance.
