Auburn diner owners claim business hurt by parking problems with downtown apartments

Before Genesee Street became home to upscale apartments along Auburn's east side, nearby merchants wondered how the development would impact downtown's available parking and, in turn, their businesses.

Now, the owners of one of Genesee Street's longstanding eateries have claimed that they have lost customers due to traffic from the apartment complex, which was opened last fall.

Bill Juhl — who said he has owned Hunter's Dinerant at 18 Genesee St. with his wife, Rachael, for the past six years — said Hunter's Dinerant has seen its revenue drop by approximately 30 percent in the last two years — "a trend no business can survive," he added.
