Agencies seek to improve Sucker Brook water quality

The town of Canandaigua and the Canandaigua Lake Watershed Council are seeking a state permit to improve the quality of water in Sucker Brook Tributary on the south side of Routes 5&20.

The town has applied for an Article 24 Freshwater Wetlands permit from the state Department of Environmental Conservation so it can to construct a new peak-flow channel and create new wetlands.

The high flow channel and new wetland would be located outside the state-regulated freshwater wetland in an area adjacent to the brook. The design will allow back water to flow into the regulated wetland for short-term storage during large storm events, periodically flooding up to 9.9 acres of regulated wetland. The DEC has said this project will not have a significant effect on the environment and has issued a negative declaration.
