Deputies: Investigation ends with seizure of untaxed cigarettes, assault rifles from Walworth home

A Walworth man is facing multiple charges after deputies in Wayne County say they completed a months-long investigation into weapons and untaxed cigarettes.

Mark Hopkins, 62, of Walworth was arrested and charged with multiple counts of unlawful possession of untaxed cigarettes, as well as criminal possession of a weapon.

Deputies executed a search warrant on Hopkins’ Waterford Road residence in Walworth on February 8th due to the known presence of weapons.

Due to the risk associated with such a search warrant execution — ATF and the Monroe County Bomb Squad assisted.

Deputies said they seized numerous cartons of untaxed cigarettes, as well as several unlawfully-possessed assault rifles and large capacity ammunition magazines.

Hopkins will appear in court again next month.
