The public will soon get the opportunity to comment on a financial assistance package being offered to Deer Haven Park LLC, the prospective owner of 7,000 acres at the former Seneca Army Depot.
The Seneca County Industrial Development Agency has given initial approval to an application from Deer Haven owner Earl Martin to lease the land for a year and pay $50,000 in lieu of property taxes in 2017. If the lease goes into a second year, the company would pay $75,000 in lieu of property taxes. The IDA gave its initial approval to that plan Jan. 5.
A public hearing on the application is at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 9 in the Romulus Fire Hall at 2010 Cayuga St. Martin formed Deer Haven LLC to develop the 7,000 acres. He asked to pay the $900,000 purchase price up front, but requested a lease in order to see if he could get a reduction on the property’s current assessed value of $25 million.
