One of the largest groups of volunteers Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge has seen for the Mid-Winter Bald Eagle Survey counted 44 eagles from the north end of Cayuga Lake to the southern shores of Lake Ontario Friday morning. Though last year’s milder weather brought the eagles in droves — 77 of the raptors in total — experienced and novice birders alike were pleased with this year’s turnout.
