In an update Wednesday morning, Ontario County Sheriff Philip Povero said they’re still working to understand what led to a violent crash on State Route 14 near the Geneva Country Club. Witnesses say that the vehicle struck a utility pole and then rolled several times before coming to rest. Six children were inside the vehicle, in addition to the driver — who suffered a range of injuries.

At this time, Povero says two children were most seriously injured and remain in guarded condition at this time. Details of those injuries were not clarified.

Beulah J. Zimmerman, 11, was airlifted from the scene by LifeNet. Povero’s office described the injuries that the 11-year-old suffered as ‘severe’ head injuries.

Deputies in Ontario County have identified the driver as Esther J. Zimmerman, 42, of Geneva. She and three other children who were in the vehicle – were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with what were reported as head and facial injuries. Another child was treated at the scene by paramedics, and the last child inside the vehicle was treated at Geneva General Hospital.

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, West Lake Fire Department, White Springs Fire Department North Seneca Ambulance, Phelps Ambulance, and Finger Lakes Ambulance all responded to the scene.
