Four sent to hospital after school bus, car crash in Manchester

Deputies in Ontario County say that a 26-year-old woman was ticketed for following too closely after her vehicle struck a Red Jacket school bus.

The accident happened around 3:14 pm and the bus was transporting 24 students and two staff members to an after school program. The vehicle was being operated by Samantha Brown, 26, of Manchester, who had her 6-year-old child in the vehicle with her. Both Brown and her child were transported to Clifton Springs Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Deputies say that two students on the bus were transported to Clifton Springs Hospital via Finger Lakes Ambulance for treatment of minor injuries as well. Authorities did not elaborate on their condition beyond that. However, deputies did note that all other students and faculty on the bus were uninjured during the crash.

The accident happened on Main Street in the Village of Manchester — where deputies say the bus was waiting to make a left turn. The vehicle being operated by Brown was following too closely, which didn’t allow her enough time to stop before the vehicle and bus collided.

Brown was issued a ticket for following too closely and will answer it in court at a later date.
