Family and friends of a an 11-year-old girl who was killed last week after being hit by a vehicle in Tompkins County said people had their cars broken into shortly after her funeral. Kaylee Wacht, 11, of Freeville, died Dec. 4 after she and Kristin Shevalier, 14, were hit by a pickup truck, state police said.
After Wacht was buried at Virgil Rural Cemetery Tuesday morning, friends and family gathered at the Dryden VFW legion at 2272 Dryden Rd. for a luncheon, said Wacht’s mother, Kimberly Wacht. Family members began to leave the gathering at approximately 2:30 p.m. and saw that at least four cars had been broken into in the parking lot, Kimberly Wacht said.
