Sheriff David Gould reports that the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Aaron D. Greene, 36, of Port Byron as the operator involved in a traffic stop and pursuit that occurred over the weekend.
On Saturday, October 22nd at about 8:39 pm on Ira Hill Road in the Town of Ira deputies stopped a 2001 Chevy Pickup for speeding. As Deputies stood outside the driver’s side window waiting for the operator to provide his paperwork, the operator suddenly sped away.
Within minutes, deputies located the vehicle at the Ira Methodist Church on Ferris Road. Upon seeing Deputy J.P. Taber pull up, the operator sped out of the church parking lot striking the right side of the patrol vehicle.
Members of the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police spent several hours looking for the vehicle and operator with no result.
No injuries were reported, according to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office.
On Monday, members of the Sheriff’s Office located Greene in Port Byron. He was taken into custody without incident.
Mr. Greene was charged with the following additional charges:
- Fourth-degree criminal mischief, a Class A misdemeanor
- Third-degree unlawfully fleeing a police officer, a Class A misdemeanor
Additional traffic tickets will also be issued for speed and other offenses.
Mr. Greene was committed to Cayuga County Jail in lieu of $2,000 cash bail or $4,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to return to the Town of Ira Court on November 14th at 5:00 pm.
