Update: As heavy rain makes it’s way back into the area this morning, temperatures are expected to hang in the mid-50’s throughout Friday. Locations throughout the Finger Lakes have seen 2-3 inches of rainfall already. The Flash Flood Watch now includes the entire Finger Lakes region with more than 2-inches of rain expected additionally on top of what fell Thursday.
The Flash Flood Watch includes Ontario, Wayne, Seneca, Cayuga, Monroe, Yates, Tompkins, Steuben, Schuyler, Cortland, and Onondaga counties.
The threat exists throughout Thursday night and Friday morning for rainfall amounts to reach 2-3 inches per hour at times. The next two days are expected to remain rainy and gray for the Finger Lakes, which could result in minor flooding.
The rains though are beneficial. Much of the region remains moisture starved, after an incredibly hot, and dry summer. Parts of the Finger Lakes are several inches below year-to-date norms, which prompted regular drought updates throughout the region over the last several months.
