Two officers sent to hospital after incident at Five Points in Romulus

The New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association announced that two corrections officers were injured at Five Points Correctional Facility in Romulus after an altercation with an inmate.

Officials say that the two were taken to Cayuga Medical Center after an incident involving inmate Albert Woods, who is 43-years-old.

The NYSCOPBA reports that Woods allegedly was passing items, which belonged to another inmate — to a third inmate. A subsequent search revealed hand-rolled cigarettes.

Woods was ordered to his cell after being frisked. However, officials say that the inmate then came up behind the officer and punched him in the back of the head. Afterward, the officer was again punched in the face — as he turned around.

A second officer, which came to assist during the incident suffered minor injuries to the leg. The pair were able to bring the inmate under control after a few volatile moments.

The initial officer suffered a bloody nose, some facial swelling and various abrasions. Both were treated and released without further treatment.

The identity of those injured officers has not been released.
