It’s official. The City of Geneva has a bark park on South Exchange Street. The Geneva Recreation Department held a special leash cutting ceremony on Saturday at 11:00 am featuring speakers, booths for residents and dog patrons, as well as a bench dedication. For those involved with this project from the ground up – it was an experience like no other. Dogs were allowed to enjoy the park that same afternoon, and while certain portions of the park were not 100 percent complete – it was still enjoyed by those present.Janelle Drach of the Recreation Department said, “We envision Geneva’s Bark Park to be a great place where neighbors can gather to enjoy time together with their four-legged family members.”The “Bark Park” as it has been dubbed by volunteers who have spent over three years fundraising for the location, will provide more consistent recreational opportunities for dogs and their human families by offering an off leash play space. Situated in a vacant plot of land in downtown Geneva, the previous location of a wooden playground community build project, this one acre piece of land will offer both a large and smaller dog play area.Check out the entire ceremony in the video player above, or learn more about the Bark Park at www.genevarec.com.
