Covert man charged with attempted murder in violent attack

A Covert man has been indicted on attempted murder charges following an investigation into extreme domestic violence on April 9th. On April 9th around 4:36 am the Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic violence incident in progress at 4739 Seneca Road in the Town of Covert. Upon arrival deputies observed a female victim with serious physical injuries. There was a large amount of blood and other physical evidence at the scene.The suspect, Don P. Sipp, 40, of Covert (Trumansburg mailing address) was also present at the scene with minor injuries. Both individuals were transported by ambulance to Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca.The victim was then relayed to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pennsylvania and admitted for treatment. The victim suffered multiple cuts including a cut to the neck as well as cuts to her face. The victim also sustained multiple contusions and fractures to her face and body. The suspect was treated and released from Cayuga Medical when he was taken into custody. Deputies and investigators continued the investigation and processing the scene. After a preliminary investigation the suspect was charged with two counts of assault in the first degree – class B felonies. He was arraigned in Fayette Town Court and committed to the Seneca County Correctional Facility with no bail.The investigation continued in conjunction with the Seneca County District Attorney’s Office. Interviews were conducted and a large amount of evidence was obtained and correlated. The victim was released from the hospital on April 12th. The case was then presented to the Seneca County Grand Jury.The following indictment was handed down:- Attempted murder in the second degree – a class B felony. – Two counts of assault in the first degree – class B felonies. – Assault in the second degree – a class D felony.- Criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree – a class D felony.Sipp continues to be committed to the Seneca County Correctional Facility on no bail. The victim has been referred to Safe Harbors of the Finger Lakes for Victim Services.
