NWS issues Lake Effect Snow Advisory for CNY

The National Weather Service in Binghamton and Buffalo have both issued Lake Effect Snow Advisories for counties in the Finger Lakes region. Wayne, Cayuga, and Seneca counties are all under Lake Effect Snow Advisories beginning Wednesday afternoon and lasting through Thursday evening. The timing of the event will ensure that those traveling through the region tomorrow morning will be spared, but the heavier snow will begin to pick up during the late-afternoon hours. A total of 5 to 9 inches of snow is expected in the warned counties, with snow showers and snow squalls developing late-morning into early-afternoon on Wednesday. Travel will be difficult where the bands of lake effect snow impact the roadways. Winds will also be gusting in excess of 35 mph overnight on Wednesday, causing significant blowing snow.While temperatures during the snow event will maintain themselves in the low-20’s, this weekend central New York will see it’s coldest weather of the winter season by far. High temperatures on Saturday are only expected to be a few degrees above zero, and sub-zero temperatures are expected when residents wake up Sunday morning.
