It is time again for the “Traveling Little Black Dress” to liven things up in Seneca Falls! The Fourth Annual show, this year titled “Traveling Little Black Dress… Treasures Her BFF” fashion show and luncheon will be at The Gould Hotel Friday, April 8th, and Saturday, April 9th, from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm.In January of this year the Seneca County House of Concern celebrated its 47th year in service to Seneca County. Our primary goal back at the time of our foundation was to help our neighbors in need, and that continues to be our goal today. We are a food pantry, a clothing closet, a referral agency, and a safe place for people to come when they find themselves facing the sometimes difficult challenges that life can bring – a place that feeds minds with knowledge, stomachs with food, and hearts with hope.We have been able to serve the community for such a long time because of support from the United Way, and from area businesses, organizations and churches, but also because of the incredible generosity and donations of the people who live and work in our area. We are so blessed to receive huge donations of food and funds every year, as neighbor reaches out to help neighbor. Without these year-after-year donations we would not have been able to keep our doors open and our services available.Unfortunately the need continues to grow. We now provide food for between 400 and 500 families every month! In order to meet this demand we have begun to fund raise, and our primary fundraiser is the fashion show each spring. The first year of the show, 2013, saw us take in over $9,000 for our food pantry. Last year we raised that amount to over $14,000. We are hoping to raise that total yet again this year. The fun will begin in the foyer of The Gould at 11:00 with raffles and shopping opportunities. Attendees can buy chances to win lovely baskets and gift certificates supplied by local businesses and to purchase clothing and accessories from local shops and artisans. You will also have the opportunity to buy a chance on a little black dress of your own with matching jewelry accessories, all of which is donated by local retailers. The ballroom doors will open at 11:30 and guests will be escorted to their reserved seat as the fashion show begins. A delicious lunch prepared by The Gould’s chef will be served, which will include soup, an entree and dessert. While you dine, you will be entertained with a delightful fashion show created by Sharon Hoatland, featuring models who are local friends and neighbors.Come join us and invite your friends, family members and neighbors. Remember when you attend The Traveling Little Black Dress Fashion Show and Luncheon you are helping to feed the hungry in Seneca County. Tickets for this year’s event will be $40.00 and will be available at New Beginnings Boutique, 103 Fall Street, Seneca Falls and online via PayPal at houseofconcern.org.The mission of the House of Concern is to help those in need with basic needs such as food, clothes and household items and to treat everyone with dignity and respect. The organization has been a source of assistance for people in difficult situations for over 47 years, feeding minds with knowledge, stomachs with food and hearts with hope.
