Seneca Co. Sheriff introduces Project Lifesaver

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office is excited to invite family members or care givers of children under the age of eighteen with Autism, Down syndrome, or other cognitive impairments ordisabilities who are at risk of becoming missing due to impairments or disabilities which can cause such children to wander, elope, or become lost to enroll in the Seneca County Sheriff’s OfficeProject Lifesaver Program. In addition, family members or care givers of persons with Alzheimer’s, dementia or other cognitive impairments or disabilities who are at risk of becoming missing due to impairments or disabilities which can cause such adults to wander, elope or become lost are also invited to enroll in the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office Project Lifesaver Program.“In May of 2015, the Sheriff’s Office was awarded a State Grant which provided for the purchase of transmitters, receivers and training for Sheriff’s Deputies to implement this important program. Participants are fitted with a battery operated wrist band which emits a signal every five seconds and in the event a Project Lifesaver client goes missing specially trained deputies using an Rf antenna can hone in on the persons locations. Most, if not all are located a short distance from where they have gone missing from and time is of the essence”, said Undersheriff Gary S. Sullivan. There is no cost to join or participate in the program; however, family or care givers are responsible for checking the battery strength every day with a monitoring device which we will provide. Every sixty days, one of our Project Lifesaver Deputies will visit the participant and replace the battery with a new one.We have had several children and adults go missing over the past few years and found all of them after a great deal of time had elapsed. This program will greatly reduce the time it takes to find a loved one who may go missing. If you would like to learn more about this program contact the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office at 315-220-3200 and press “0” and you will be connected to an administrative assistant who will forward your contact information to one of our Project Lifesaver Deputies. “This program will save lives” said Sullivan.
