Area residents are invited to take a course—on campus, in their living room, or even as far away as Kenya—during Cornell University’s Winter Session, which takes place during the quiet time between fall and spring semesters. Winter Session is a great opportunity to learn something new, take a class for personal or professional advancement, and earn up to four credits.On-campus courses (January 2–17) will focus on art history, Buddhism, bioscientific terminology, organizational writing, macro- and microeconomics, and accounting. Winter Session students enjoy smaller classes and easy access to university facilities. Coursework is focused and intensive.Off-campus offerings (dates vary) in New York City include an art studio course, a course on the city’s changing architecture, and two Swahili courses designed to quickly develop speaking, reading, and writing skills. Farther afield are a program on the sacred geography of Banaras, India, and a course in tropical field ecology in Kenya.Distance learning courses (December 26–January 17) focus on marketing, popular culture in the United States, public relations and advertising, microeconomics, political philosophy, the politics of incarceration, and doing business in emerging markets. These courses include Web-based components, e-mail sessions with faculty, and more.Registration begins November 5. Tuition is $970 per credit.
