In November, the Ontario County Board of Supervisors created a new department and position, a director of sustainability and solid waste management. The starting salary was advertised as $94,909.
The county now appears ready to begin the process of hiring someone to fill that position.
The board’s Planning & Environmental Quality Committee will consider recommending a candidate for the job when it meets Monday afternoon. The name of the candidate will not be made known until the meeting.
If the committee approves the candidate, the recommendation will go to the full board for a final vote.
Planning Department Director Tom Harvey and Public Works Commissioner Bill Wright were directed to submit a list of names and job titles of employees in those departments substantially engaged in solid waste and sustainability functions who could be transferred to the new department. That list was to be submitted to county Administrator Mary Krause.
