Gov. Andrew Cuomo's administration announced that the state will get more than $9 million in federal funding to help the state fight opioid addiction.
The money will spread around to different agencies and services throughout the state.
Nearly $6 million will go to medication-assisted treatment with a focus on upstate areas. $2.1 million will pay for the creation of five new recovery centers in areas are believed to have a greater need for services.
The rest of the money will fund specialized treatment and recovery programs around the state.
One program that is expected to get a slice of the money helps connect recovering addicts with transportation so they can stay in treatment. Another group trains first responders on how to care for patients that are intoxicated.
