Car crashes, power outages and more reported during ‘duration’ snow event

About 20 car crashes were reported and more than 800 homes lost power as a winter storm swept through Cayuga County Wednesday.

With a winter weather advisory in effect for all of Cayuga County, county dispatchers reported about 20 car accidents as of about 10:30 a.m. Most of the accidents were not very serious, dispatchers said, and were centrally located in Cayuga County. There were about two or three ambulance transports for injuries, which dispatchers also believed to not be serious.

In addition to motor vehicle accidents, Cayuga County 911 received continuous calls reporting fallen trees — about 40 or 50 by 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Most have been in roadways, with no reports of home of vehicle damage.

The Auburn Fire Department reported around 10:45 a.m. that there were a few minor accidents Tuesday night, but there hadn’t been any accidents reported Wednesday morning.
